Don’t overthink
Starting a new page in your brand-new gratitude journal can be daunting. But it’s important not to overthink it. Go with the flow and write down whatever comes into your head. Spending too long trying to make your journal look or sound perfect will mean you never actually get started. Take the plunge and put pen to paper.
Start with prompts
If you’re unsure what to write about, perhaps research some gratitude journal prompts. These can give you inspiration until you feel ready to come up with ideas of your own. Adding some of your favourite quotes is also a great way to fill out your journal.
Set aside time to write
To start writing in your gratitude journal, it is best to set aside a certain time every day to do so. Adding it into your daily routine will mean that it becomes a habit that you never forget to do. Choose a time that works best for you; whether that’s when you wake up, during lunch or in the evening. Treat it as something to look forward to every day so that you will always feel motivated to write.
Come up with new angles
When keeping a gratitude journal, you may sometimes feel like you are repeating yourself. To combat this, look for different angles on topics you have already written about. For example, write about someone you’re grateful for from another person’s perspective. If you’re still struggling, take it back to basics. Connect with your senses and think about how you are grateful for your favourite food, your job, where you live.
