6 Ways to Wake Up With Energy Every Morning
The definition of energy is the strength and vitality required for sustained physical or mental activity. However, does your alarm clock fill you with dread every morning? Do you struggle to get going - a virtual zombie for the first few hours of the day?
Well, fear not. There are a few quick and easy things you can do to change your morning from bleurgh to yay.
1. Choose a fun song as an alarm and have a dance party
If there is one thing a traditional alarm clock is good at, it’s annoying us out of a blissful dream and putting us in a bad mood. So, what if you change the sound to a song you love? That way, you get to wake up and dance in bed, feeling happy and wanting to get up and enjoy the music.
If you’re feeling adventurous, you could even mix the songs up to have a different dance party every morning.
Not only will your favourite music coax you out of bed, having a mini dance party gives you that all-important first bit of exercise to get your muscles warmed up.
2. No snooze allowed
Are you married to your snooze button? If so, it might be time to file for a divorce.
Snoozing is a bad idea for your energy levels as it affects your sleep cycle, meaning you are going to wake up more tired than after the first alarm (unless you ignore it, obviously – but I wouldn’t recommend it!)
Worse still, pressing snooze is the equivalent of telling yourself you failed at the first goal you set yourself for the day – getting up at X o’clock. So how can you expect to feel energised and raring to go when you start your day on the wrong foot?
Instead, take the snooze option off your alarm (most smartphones have this option). Then, when the alarm goes off, turn it off, count to five and then jump out of bed. It might help to place your alarm away from your bed, so you have no choice but to get up. Just make sure to avoid the temptation to get back in!
3. No caffeine after midday
Your morning starts the day before.
Having caffeine within eight hours of going to bed will likely affect your sleep, making it less restorative and causing you to wake up tired and miserable.
If you can’t go the rest of the day without your cup of joe, change to decaf after midday and enjoy the taste of a much more energised morning!
4. Morning plans
To wake up with excitement and energy, have something enjoyable planned for when you wake up. It could be as simple as watching an episode of your favourite show or a breakfast you enjoy eating.
Just like a kid on their birthday, you’ll wake up ready to take your day by storm.
5. Meditation for morning energy
Morning meditation is a powerful way to start your day. While meditation can often be looked at as a relaxing and unloading exercise, it can in fact be used to energize the body and mind. Meditation for morning energy isn’t as difficult or as time consuming as it might sound. You can follow a guided morning meditation from one of the many online meditation resources. Simply put aside 5 minutes in the morning, and this will have a positive effect on your energy levels for the rest of your day.
6. Drink water
As soon as you wake up, drink a glass of water.
You’ve just been asleep for eight hours – your body is dehydrated. So having a glass of water straight away will immediately perk you up.
Keep a glass or bottle by your bed, so you have it ready to go.
Let the energetic mornings roll on!
